From snacks in barefoot bars to multi-course feasts under the stars at palm-fringed resorts, Honolulu dining experiences inevitably couple cuisine with a sense of destination romance. Meals with stellar views (and sometimes prices to match) are readily available along the famed Waikiki shoreline, lined with restaurants catering to patrons from some 160 hotels and condominiums. Ethnic eateries of considerable charm if not the guaranteed vistas are plentiful at inland shopping centers and residential neighborhoods. Honolulu's multitude of cuisines from Chinese, French, Italian and other Continental, to flavors blowing all the way in from the Caribbean, Down Under and elsewhere reflect exotic and historical background seasoned with an aloha spirit. Pasta options might well include Kung Pao Spaghetti. Plate lunches, a staple among natives, are served from mom and pop lunch wagons and neighborhood counters where choices include roast pork, beef teriyaki, shoyu chicken, or meatloaf accompanied by a couple of scoops of white rice and thick savory gravy. In contrast, Bali by the Sea in the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and Spa has a Euro-Asian menu with scallion crusted ahi temura and roasted-beet salad with macadamia nuts and goat cheese. Azul, the signature restaurant of the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa, features textures, flavors and cooking methods of Mediterranean countries, whereas the The Kahala Hotel & Resort's Tokyo-Tokyo (offering King Crab Yaki and the Uosuki with 10 varieties of local and Japanese fish) is one of Oahu's few Japanese restaurants offering both indoors seating or al fresco dining on the terrace.
